Statement

As a Latina, Hispanic, Mexican-American, Tejana, American of Mexican descent, Chicana, and Pocha, I am intrigued by the precariousness of cultural identity.

Our past and present American history of immigration, loss of family history, cultural rape, conquering of peoples, oppression, and revolution have an ever influencing impact on how we perceive ourselves, as well as how we perceive others.

I am most interested in contemplating the underlying, dormant issues of race, sex, and power that constantly surface and disrupt the ideal perception of the American persona.

Within my art issues of power seem to continuously emerge regardless of the media I work in. Using a blend of rasquachismo and irreverence, my work reflects my ongoing experience of creating a cultural identity within American society.
